Naoki Satoh

Born July 19, 1961, in Osaka, Naoki Satoh is a former graphic designer and art director at Konami, now leading his own creative studio, Dolphin Brain.

Satoh graduated from Osaka University of Arts and Souzou-sha Design College before joining Konami in 1986. He began his career as a character designer for arcade games, contributing to titles like Koi no HotRock (Rock’n Rage) and Combat School (Boot Camp). In 1987, Satoh transitioned to the package design department, where he played a key role in shaping the visual identity of Konami’s most popular games.

He directed the art and design for product packaging and advertising for MSX titles such as Parodius, King’s Valley II, SD Snatcher, Space Manbow, and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. His responsibilities included title logo design, visual direction, and the creation of packaging materials like instruction manuals and cartridge labels. Satoh was also instrumental in designing the logos for Konami’s record label, Konami Label. By the late 1980s, he had become a central figure in the PC game design field, overseeing multiple projects and developing innovative packaging for MSX and X68000 games.

From 1989 to 1991, Satoh led the package design department, transitioning from working on individual titles to managing a team of designers. His leadership and creative vision contributed to the branding of numerous iconic Konami games, including the arcade hit Gaiapolis.

In 1996, after a significant shift at Konami following the Kobe earthquake, Satoh left the company to explore new opportunities in design and advertising.

In 2010, he founded Dolphin Brain, where he continues to work on graphic design, web design, and video production, while also teaching design since 2015. Satoh serves as a board member of the Kobe Design Association and remains active in the local creative community.
